The man from Indesit

The washing machine has been on the blink for over a week. Thankfully we have it covered by a household appliance policy so they said they'd send someone out today to look at it. They couldn't give a time but it would be anytime between 8am and 6pm. I've never known them to arrive any earlier than midday and sometimes they make us their last call given the fact we're so remote. Imagine then our surprise when they guy turned up at 8am on the dot. I was in the shower and my wife and son had just had breakfast. My wife answered the door and let him in. 'Daddy, Daddy, the man's here!', my son screamed up the stairs. 'I know mate, I'll be down in a second'. 'No come now and say hello!', shouted my son as he dragged me from the bathroom, not a stitch on. 'Good morning...', I mumbled down to him... 'Morning sir!", was the reply. By the time I was dressed, the machine was in pieces on the kitchen floor. I expect he'll be busy today - especially after last night's Watchdog programme on the BBC. It's a consumer rights show that goes after rogue traders and stands up for your rights. They were complaining about mould building up in a new washing machine and as it was incapable of operating at temperatures above 60 degrees, it was staying in the machine and ruining clothes. All very interesting but not good news if you've just forked out £300 for one.
The guy had soon identified the problem - 'main board'. Luckily he was carrying a spare and in another ten minutes he'd fitted it and reassembled the machine - much to my wife's delight. He'd finished in the nick of time too - I was able to drop my wife at work and head on over to see my mum.

Lynda Bellingham

I was shocked to hear of the passing of Lynda Bellingham on Sunday. I had known she was terminally ill, but I really thought, as did man...
